Harem Hussein
Harem has over 12 years of experience in fire safety engineering nationally and internationally, and PhD in fire safety engineering. Harem is a Chartered Engineer with Engineering Council through both Institute of Fire Engineering (IFE) and the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE) as well as a Professional Member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE). Harem is familiar with the UK building regulations, codes and standards regarding fire safety and has many years of experience in various CFD codes and analytical fire engineering tools. He has many peer-reviewed journal publications regarding fire safety in built environments. Harem was a project leader in a UKAS-accredited fire testing lab and conducted various fire testing including reaction to fire testing and resistance to fire testing. Harem led many full-scale and intermediate-scale façade tests according to BS8414 and ISO 13785-1 respectively. He has done various assessments in lieu of fire testing according to PFPF guidelines and is well familiar with BS9414. Harem was involved in developing CFD models to predict fire spread to the external walls.
Harem has a profound knowledge of intrusive investigations for external walls and reviews the façade systems according to the Building Regulations and guidance. He has led many large portfolio projects of existing high-rise and mid-rise residential and mix-use buildings to provide façade fire safety and fire engineering recommendations including necessary remedial works. Harem led a team of fire engineers in London to provide fire engineering services such as FRAEW reports, fire strategy and Fire Risk Assessment. He was involved in developing many fire strategy reports for existing and new buildings and is well familiar with finding a robust fire engineering solution for complex buildings. He has been an author and a peer-reviewer for many fire engineering reports and technical notes. Harem is actively working on investigating external walls for existing high-rise residential buildings according to the PAS9980 methodology and advises clients on a daily basis regarding their building external walls’ safety and any necessary remedial works based on the FRAEW reports’ outcomes. Harem is now working on various fire engineering and fire safety research projects to ensure a safer built environment for all.
