Speak Up: Creating a Culture Where Mental Health Matters at MAF

Mental health is an important part of our overall wellbeing, and at MAF, we believe it is something that should be talked about openly.
That is why we are introducing SPEAK UP, a new initiative designed to help create a supportive workplace where people feel comfortable talking when things are not quite right.
Creating a Safe Space to Talk
Life does not always go to plan. Sometimes pressures come from work, while at other times they come from things happening outside the workplace. Whatever the reason, having someone willing to listen can make a real difference.
Through SPEAK UP, we want our people to know that there is a safe, supportive and judgement-free environment where they can talk about how they are feeling.
Our approach is simple:
Talk. We listen. We support. We guide.
We are not here to replace professional mental health services, and we recognise that sometimes specialist support is the right next step. What we can do is listen, provide support where we reasonably can and help people find appropriate professional resources when they need them.

Looking Out for Each Other
Mental health support is not just about having somewhere to turn when things become difficult. It is also about creating a culture where colleagues look out for one another.
A simple question such as “Are you okay?” can sometimes open the door to a conversation that someone really needs.
You do not need to have all the answers or know exactly what to say. Being willing to listen without judgement can be incredibly valuable.
Building Something That Lasts
SPEAK UP is the beginning of an initiative that we want to continue developing at MAF.
As it grows, we aim to provide practical guidance, useful resources and information about where people can access professional mental health support when required.
Most importantly, we want to help make conversations around mental health feel more natural and less difficult.
Because everyone has good days and difficult days. What matters is knowing that you do not always have to deal with those difficult moments alone.
Speaking up is not a weakness. It is a strength.
